Person-Centred therapy forms the basis of the counselling service provided. Person-Centred therapy was developed by Carl Rogers. This type of therapy diverged from the traditional model of the therapist as expert and moved instead toward a non-directive, empathic approach that empowers and motivates the client in the therapeutic process. The therapy is based on Rogers' belief that every human being strives for and has the capacity to fulfil his or her own potential. Person-centred therapy has had a tremendous impact on the field of psychotherapy and many other disciplines. At apositive we believe that it only takes one person in this world to value an individual to make a difference.
Life Coaching is the art of facilitating the performance , learning and development of another (Myles Downey - Effective Coaching). Coaching is a practical tool for personal exploration and development that can unlock and release the potential within individuals and bring about positive change in their lives.
Other Complementary Therapies and Techniques:
Neuro Linguistic Programming - is the process of guiding an individual to review their current thought patterns, skills, behaviour and linguistic patterns. New levels of self awareness and personal effectiveness can be achieved by discovering personal patterns and removing self induced limits. NLP works well alongside both Counselling and Life Coaching.
Mindfulness - is a technique you can learn to become aware of what is happening in the present moment in your mind, body and surroundings. It aims to help you become more self aware, feel calmer and less stressed, feel more able to choose how to respond to your thoughts and feelings, cope with difficult or unhelpful thoughts and be kinder to yourself and others. Mindfulness works well also alongside both Counselling and Life Coaching.
